This map is not an indication of walkability. In fact, it's not even a map of college towns. Instead, it's a map based on ePodunk data that focuses on cities and towns with jazz clubs, literary events, book stores, cafes, and other cultural amenities that a good college town should have. There are 130 college towns in the U.S. of which only 17 are represented here. The remaining 21 cities on this map are not dominated by its college population and so would not normally be considered college towns. The colors indicate size: the darker, the more populated (which btw says nothing about population density and thus about walkability). White is under 20k, yellow is under 100k, small brown is under 300k, and large brown is over 300k (and if a city is exactly 300k, then I guess it's not on the map;)
